Central Heating

Traditionally, central heating is a method of whole-home heating where warm water circulates through a closed network of pipes, carrying heat around the home. These pipes can lead to radiators or they can be laid in the floor for underfloor heating. It is not uncommon to have a combination of both radiators and underfloor heating. The heat source can also provide hot water for baths, showers and the like. There are two ways in which a warm water central heating system can supply domestic hot water:-

1.   Combination boilers, suitable for homes with up to two bathrooms, heat water for the central heating system as well as additional water, produced instantaneously for domestic hot water use.

2.   System boilers or hydronic heat pumps use the same heated water which is pumped around the central heating system to indirectly heat domestic hot water via a heat exchange coil in the hot water cylinder.

However, technology has moved on and there is now, not only a choice of boiler and radiators and underfloor heating, but heating and cooling is now also an option.
